Join us for a stellar family adventure as we open our doors to the whole community! Following the success of our Schools Day, we’re inviting whānau from across Central Otago to experience the wonders of our night sky through interactive science, stunning astrophotography, and world-class presentations.

What to Experience:

🌟 StarLab Planetarium – Step inside the massive inflatable dome in our Henderson Gallery and be transported beneath the southern hemisphere’s star-filled skies. This incredible facility has come up from Tūhura Otago Museum.

🌟 Professor Brian Boyle’s Deep Space Journey – Join our renowned astronomer as he guides you through the wonders of the Milky Way and beyond, featuring his stunning 7.3m “Our Southern Sky” installation.

🌟 Interactive Science Activities – Hands-on experiences delivered by the expert Tūhura Otago Museum Outreach Team and Central Stories Museum staff.

🌟 Astrophotographers in Action – Meet the artists behind the exhibition’s breathtaking images, watch live demonstrations, and discover the techniques used to capture our cosmic neighbours.

🌟 Winterstellar Constellation Challenge – Explore Scorpius through different cultural lenses – from Māui’s Hook to the Blue Dragon and other fascinating perspectives.

Perfect for families, astronomy enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the universe above us. Children who visited during Schools Day are encouraged to return with their whānau to share the experience!

Free community event – all ages welcome

This special day is a collaboration between Central Stories Museum, Winterstellar Charitable Trust, Central Otago REAP, and Tūhura Otago Museum.
