Douce Ambiance — literally “sweet sounds” — returns to Alexandra as part of their 14-centre South Island tour, and Central Stories is thrilled to welcome them back for another evening among the art.
As part of their 14 centre tour through South Island, the popular and skilled ensemble Douce Ambiance, are excited to return to Alexandra.
Douce Ambiance’s captivating sound comes from the warm rich tone of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s Cathy Irons’ violin as it blends together with Dan Robertson’s keyboard, Dougal Canard’s guitar and double bass and Douglas Brush’s intriguing assortment of percussion.
Douce Ambiance, literally means “Sweet Sounds,” and the quartet will showcase their brilliant versatility and creativity with a spectacular programme of flamenco, Irish, light jazz and Gypsy.
Alongside their own interpretations of Bill Evans and Chick Corea, a highlight will be the
performance of two of Piazzolla’s most captivating and exciting works – the sweet and gentle Tanti Anni Prima “Ave Maria, and the contrasting Escualo “The Shark,” an intense and rhythmically compelling work. Escualo was inspired by the composer’s passion for shark fishing and from the very opening, it will have you hooked!
All this makes for an intimate evening of exquisite music from four stellar musicians.
“Playing in the symphony orchestra is like giant party, where the violin section blends together” says Cathy Irons, violinist in Douce Ambiance. “But when I play with this group, it feels more like a special occasion, where I can let my violin dance and sparkle with friends.”
