The kākāpō is a nocturnal, flightless parrot. And its strangeness doesn’t end there. It’s critically endangered and one of New Zealand’s unique treasures.

There are only 209 kākāpō alive today according to DOC. That does not include our sample of course, as ours has unfortunately met its demise and gone to meet his maker.

Bring your fathers of a certain age to see our exhibit, and let him regale you with a recital of an old Monty Python sketch. Or, perhaps it would be safer to leave him at home…
