AN EXHIBITION OF ORIGINAL PAINTINGS BY JANE COOMBES
October 6 to November 3 2022
New Acrylic Inks and Oil Paintings – “Broken fences, weatherboard dreams”.
Since returning to New Zealand I have thought a lot about how New Zealand is evolving and how this impacts my sense of place. New bungalows are replacing the farm houses of old and smallholdings are giving way to corporate farming. The rural landscape is changing. My latest New Zealand works are a series of ink drawings and oil paintings which capture the legacy of this landscape. I see a tainted beauty and sense of nostalgia in the architecture of old huts, woolsheds, and uninhabited villas. These buildings are our graveyard of history, they remind us of the past and speak to our values of land ownership and settlement.
